Bachelor Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Nursing Science - Miscellaneous, Technical University of Berlin (Technical University of Berlin), course: Nursing, language: English, abstract: Depression is an important mental health disorder which affects many people globally. Inpatients are among the groups of people who are at high risk of experiencing depressive symptoms. The primary aim of this review was to assessment the manner in which exercise impact the management and prevention of inpatients with depression. In order to achieve this goal, literature review was conducted on the existing literature. The literature search process was conducted on different databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, Psych Info, ScienceDirect, NELSON and Elsevier. A total of 12 studies were selected and included in this review having met all the eligibility criteria. Thematic analysis of evidence from these studies led to the generation of three themes which include exercise programmes to manage depression, psychosocial and biological mechanisms around exercise, and exercise’s role in depression prevention and treatment. The reported results showed that exercise programme has positive impacts on the depressive symptoms among inpatients.
