Darcie Chan is a brilliant writer and her book has been exquisitely received by the readers. The plot revolves around the mysterious widow Mary McAllister and the will she leaves after her death. Secrets are unveiled, memories are rekindled and everything that laid aloof is brought to light. The plot is unravelled in a small town in Vermont. All the characters are portrayed in such a distinct way and Darcie Chan has done miracles in portraying the life of a small town. We can only assume that she drew her inspiration from the towns in which she grew up. Keeping in mind that she grew up in small towns we can honestly state that her experiences from everyday life in a small rural environment offered her some amounts of inspiration. In fact, this assumption is further enhanced by the way the characters are portrayed. They are so powerful, distinct and easy to identify; They can be easily perceived as being part of a truly rural environment. Darcie Chan has stated in most of her interviews that as she was growing up she would write based on every day stories and characters. She would observe the people around and she would come up with interesting storylines - - - Don't miss out! It's highly recommended. if you're a real literature junkie or a diehard fan of the novel (I am both) it's really a must read.
