It is the owl, Orion, who has served as Sugarplum's guardian and protector. Orion has sworn, upon her own life, that King Constellation will never have the child.
That promise was made nearly two years ago, on the eve of Sugarplum's birth, after King Constellation demanded the Lunar Princess, give him the child. Now, on yet another birthday night, Orion wonders if she's made the right choice. After all, the young crown princess is filled with energy, life, and magic. Even at the young age of two, Sugarplum is clearly a talented wielder.
