"The Father of Science Fiction" was also a staunch socialist, and his later works are increasingly political and didactic. H. G. Wells was born in England in 1866 and grew up caught between the lower and middle classes. His passion for equality and interest in biology and evolution gave him a wide base of inspiration to draw on for his groundbreaking work which includes The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Invisible Man, and The War of the Worlds. He was one of the most prolific authors of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and had wide influence on science fiction, education, and beyond.
