The translation of the four texts in this volume, which focus on the city of Worms in the period c.1000 to c.1300, is intended to help fill these lacunae. The history of Worms, as told in these sources, can be understood as illuminating the broader urban, ecclesiastical and political history of the German kingdom at the height of its power.

Autorenporträt

David Bachrach, associate professor of history at the University of New Hampshire, USA, focuses his research on the military, administrative, and economic history of medieval Germany and medieval England. His publications include Religion and the Conduct of War c. 300-c.1215, Warfare in Tenth-Century Germany, and Warfare and Politics in Medieval Germany, c. 1000: On the Variety of Our Times by Alpert of Metz; he is also co-translator of The Gesta Tancredi of Ralph of Caen.
