Germany's health care system takes care of around 82 million people and is built on the principles of solidarity and equity. At the same time, it is a large and attractive market. It's long history and ever more detailed regulation, however, make it difficult to understand the system and to enter the market. The recent Corona crisis has shown hat the German health care system is robust, resilient, and flexible to cope even with unprecedented situations. This book, written by scientists and practitioners from different professional backgrounds, is intended to provide a swift, yet comprehensive, up-to-date, and authoritative introduction into how health care is delivered, financed, and governed in Germany. We have included all major changes and reforms up until September 2020. Prof. Konrad Obermann M.D., Ph.D. is senior scientific staff at the MIPH Mannheim Institute of Public Health, Heidelberg University. He is also an independent international advisor on health systems and financing. Dr. Peter Müller is a trained journalist and managing director of the Stiftung Gesundheit (Public Health Foundation), Hamburg. He teaches Management of Not-for-Profit-Organizations (MBA) at the US Touro College. Sebastian Zilch studied economics at the University of Heidelberg and public policy at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. He is Managing Director of the Bundesverband Gesundheits-IT - bvitg e. V. (Federal Association of Health IT), Berlin since June 2017. Dr. C. Martin Winter is a trained physician with a wide range of experience in clinical medicine and medical controlling at a University Hospital. He is also a board member of the German Association for Medical Controllers. Prof. Dr. Bernd Glazinski is a psychologist and professor of business psychology at Cologne University of Applied Sciences and Bratislava University, Slovakia.
