The book of the British physicist and philosopher David Deutsch, one of the creators of the concept of quantum computing, clearly demonstrates that the era of great philosophical systems is not at all a thing of the past. The author builds a holistic and scientifically consistent answer to one of the most fundamental philosophical questions: what is the true nature of reality. According to Deutsch, the fabric of reality, as it is revealed to any bearer of reason, is woven from four main threads. This is the epistemology of Karl Popper, revealing the path of scientific knowledge; it is quantum mechanics, which is holistically interpreted only after recognizing the reality of the multiverse - an infinite ensemble of parallel universes; it is the theory of computation founded by Turing, without which one cannot understand the nature of mathematical objects; and, finally, it is a universal theory of evolution, which explains the development of not only life, but also civilization. The thoughtful reader will be amazed at the combination of breadth and logical sequence of the author's thought. With his explanations, the multiverse ceases to seem like a fantasy and becomes the most natural description of the amazing reality that modern science has revealed to us. The question of the place and role of man in such a bizarre world remains outside the scope of the book.
