And, with a sense of occasionally bittersweet homecoming, Binoo indulges in the region's trademark culinary delicacies-egg-topped Alkapuri biryani, Chettinad prawn, neymeen fish curry and the 'touchingz' which go with the drinks.

Binoo K. John is a senior journalist who has worked with 'India Today', 'Indian Express', 'Mail Today' and 'DNA', Mumbai. His published works include 'Entry from Backside Only: Hazaar Fundas of English', 'Under a Cloud: Life in Cherrapunji', 'the Wettest Place on Earth' and a novel, 'The Last Song of Savio de Souza'. He is also the founder-director of the Kovalam Literary Festival, Thiruvananthapuram. He lives in Delhi with his wife, Rebecca, and son, Zubin.
