Susan M. Walls was born in Washington, DC. She received a Bachelor's degree in history from James Madison University. An author and editor, she enjoyed a 30+ year career with the U.S. Agency for International Development and received its highest award, Distinguished Career Service, upon retirement. She volunteers with historical land lineage-based societies to which she belongs and currently resides in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with her husband and their cats in a farmhouse dating to 1787.
