Helen's scientist uncle is away on a business trip. She and her younger cousin sneak into his lab and play with his experimental dream machine. the two end up in a weird world of dreams. To get home, Helen must try to get to get help from a capricious band of elves who mistrust all strangers, and she finds herself facing an evil, powerful sorcer who has kidnapped her cousin.
