Claire Dinnie grew up on a farm in Wilderness on the South African Garden Route surrounded by nature. Consequently, she has always been drawn to the natural world and Africa's exciting wildlife, becoming a field guide at 25 years old.

She guided overland safaris throughout southern Africa, escorting international clients through some of Africa's most beautiful landscapes, nature reserves and national parks, but after being on the road for five years and worn down by being constantly on the move, she transferred into the office of an overland safari company managing their operations.

A few years later, she resigned and was invited to join a four-month-long trans-African Tour D'Afrique Cycle Race as support crew. This epic tour, a 12000km route from Cairo to Cape Town, took the group through Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya and northern Tanzania and delivered some of Africa's harshest terrain, biggest challenges and crazy experiences.

Dinnie kept a diary of that tour and 17 years later relived those exciting, formidable experiences in rereading her recollections. Out of any tour she guided, this one stood out as the most memorable. As a result, she was inspired to convert those daily writings into a book.

This book is the story of their journey.
