Born in Chicago during the '34 World's Fair, Marty spent his formative years in various sections of Long Island, New York, graduating high school as "Athlete Scholar" of his class. Rejecting a scholarship to Harvard, he spent five years double registered in both the Civil and Nuclear Engineering Colleges at Cornell University, where he won major letters in basketball, track, and baseball. Retired, he presently manages investments for high net worth individuals and oversees his family's portfolio. Divorced, he has four grown children-Herbert, Susan, Douglas, and Dr. Bonnie Wilens, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
