Autorenporträt
Laurel DeWitt was born on April 29, 1952, in Oliver BC, Canada, into a large family-- seven children--at a time when many families had to hunt for their meat and maintain a large garden to survive. Her family moved to Westwold BC when she was five and lived there until they moved to Kelowna BC when she was 17. She remembers with fondness her outdoor adventures in Westwold, and helping with food growing and preparation. Laurel's parents and all of her siblings had artistic talents of one kind or another from singing and writing to graphic art, photography, and handicrafts. For Laurel, singing, writing, and culinary arts became her main expressions. Though much of her adult life was spent caring for not only her own children (two sons) but many others in various settings, she still continued throughout this time to write poetry, songs, newspaper articles and fiction, to perform in and record with bands, and to sing, whenever asked, at various community gatherings. Laurel believes the world is filled with very talented people. While striving to earn a livelihood, each person can offer something toward the well being of all. To express her various gifts, she is exploring the collaborative and cooperative route that the digital age allows. A downloadable cook book is one very good way for her to offer healthful and practical solutions for those who are Celiac, Gluen Free by choice, Vegan or Vegetarian and are interested in learning the simple methods of making Sourdough Bread and other products that continue to work so well in her own life, and seem likely to work for many others.
