"Mother, I couldn't count how many times I have said a blatant no to your request. I'm pregnant, not needy," Amahale's voice rang with a harsh undertone that startled not only her mother but the messenger that had arrived earlier with the message.

The messenger shifted uncomfortably, glancing up every now and then before straightening his white uniform. A crest of their family symbol was stamped on the chest region. Amahale eyed him with contempt as she mentally tried to understand why her mother was being so official about this.

"You need to honor the invitation, I miss you so," her mother's voice cut through the telephone speakers making Amahale squint in annoyance.

Something almost seemed amiss. She and her mother weren't so close but considering the relationship she had with her father, it was something tangible. However, this coming from her mother just after she had told her parents some days ago that she was pregnant with the child of her runaway lover was suspicious.

Is this the start of a romance between two people who care for each other or is it the start of two people 'thrown together' because of circumstantial evidence and futuristic hopes?

Mimi Riviera was born on the beautiful island of Costa Rica, where she spent the earlier years of her childhood finding enjoyment in moonlight nights by the ocean and the balmy afternoons sitting and dining on the shores with meals of freshly caught snapper fish, lobsters, and freshly fried potato chips.

Her career in writing started when she was only twelve years old, winning her first national literary contest writing about a day in the life of a tooth. Since then, she has written numerous essays, articles, and books of various genres, and will continue to examine life and its bevy of feelings exemplified by its inhabitants called human beings.

It is her wish that each time you engage your eyes with her work, you will be transported to another world of beauty through her eyes as well as resonating with each descriptive stroke of her pen.
