Produktbeschreibung
This book provides various aspects of Recent Advances in Applied Probability written in a simple and lucid style to help the reader grasp the information quickly and easily. The book contains 15 chapters and each chapter present update material sufficient to meet the students expectations from a basic textbook. The purpose of this book is to provide an introduction to probability theory and its applications, and it is intended primarily for students of engineering, science, and management. The only prerequisite is a one-year course in calculus. Although some aspects of statistics are covered, such as hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and regression analysis, they are included more as applications of probability likely to be of use to the intended audience rather than as an attempt to introduce the reader to statistical methods. The book was designed for a one-semester course although it contains more material than could be covered in that time. This allows the instructor some flexibility in choosing the particular applications of probability to consider. The first seven chapters represent the core of probability theory. The eighth chapter considers sums of random variables and derives the sampling distributions to be used later as well as discussing the approximation of distributions. The last seven chapters deal with applications of probability, which fall into two categories: the statistical (Chapters 9, 10, 13, and 14) and the nonstatistical (Chapters 11, 12, and 15).This book is designed for a curriculum that contains only the single one-semester course on probability, such as found in many engineering and science programs. The question of what to cover in such a limited time for maximum benefit to the student is one of some importance.
