Barbara J. Anderson, PhD, is a behavioral scientist and licensed clinical psychologist with 25 years of experience in clinical research as well as clinical work with youth with diabetes and their families. She has learned so much from families who live with Type 1 diabetes (T1D), about the complex inter-relationships among the normal tasks of child development, family involvement, and adherence and medical outcomes in youth with diabetes. Dr. Anderson has a particular interest in the preparation of older youth with T1D for transitioning to adult health care and independent diabetes self-management. She is a passionate advocate for education and support for youth with diabetes and their families globally, and was selected to chair the Psychosocial Writing Group for the United Nations Charter on the Global Burden of Diabetes in Youth.
