This book provides a thorough yet concise introduction to quantitative radiobiology and radiation physics, particularly the practical and medical application. Beginning with a discussion of the basic science of radiobiology, the book explains the fast processes that initiate damage in irradiated tissue and the kinetic patterns in which such damage is expressed at the cellular level. The final section is presented in a highly practical handbook style and offers application-based discussions in radiation oncology, fractionated radiotherapy, and protracted radiation among others. The text is also supplemented by a Web site.…mehr

Autorenporträt
The authors of this new edition have a combined teaching experience of over 100 years: Charles Kelsey is the author of Essentials of Radiology Physics (W. H. Green, 1985) and Essentials of Radiologic Science (McGraw-Hill, 2002). Both of these radiography-targeted books include chapters on radiation biology. He has taught radiation biology for over 40 years to x-ray technologists, medical physicists, radiology/radiation oncology residents and nuclear engineering students. Philip H. Heintz, PhD, is Chairman of the AAPM subcommittee on radiology residents Physics (including radiation biology), and director of the medical physics education program at the University of New Mexico. He has taught radiation biology for over 30 years to medical physicists, radiology/radiation oncology residents, nuclear engineering students, and x-ray technologists. Educational initiatives include extensive work with the ASRT on a physics and biological curriculum for x-ray technologists, as well as very active contribution to the web-based education committee for diagnostic radiology residents of the AAPM/RSNA.
