'Miss Marjoribanks' (1866) stands as one of her most cherished novels, contributing significantly to the sub-genre of domestic realism. In this work, she explores the life and ambitions of Lucilla Marjoribanks, the protagonist and archetype of the strong-willed Victorian woman, reflecting Oliphant's nuanced understanding of the social dynamics and gender roles of her time.
