(This is an excerpt from Part 1, as there are cliff-hangers in each part, so don't want to give away the start of Part 2 here!) Dawn came to the cliffs of Dover, hitting the white rocks with cheery sunlight. Near the cliffs, set into the rock face, high up, was a man-made cave with a window over it. But no one could see the window. Over the window was a hologram of the rock face, hiding any traces of the window or what was hidden inside. Behind the window were a group of soldiers in military shirts, with tartan kilts, high socks, military boots, dress caps and guns. They had pouches with gear slung around their shoulders and around their waists. The men were gathered around a pile of equipment, working to set up a large camera and connect it to a bank of computers attached to a transmitter. They were part of a military unit that kept their activities out of the public view. They worked on secret military projects of many kinds. Their existence was rumored by many, including the military at large, but the men in this unit could not tell even their families what they did; they could tell no one. As such, it was a lonely life at times, having to hide what you did from everyone but the people you worked with. The upside was that the men tended to confide in each other and got on well. That was a good thing, for many reasons, as we'll soon see…
