Produktbeschreibung
This book, framed in the processes of engineering analysis and design, presents concepts in mechanics of materials for students in two-year or four-year programs in engineering technology, architecture, and building construction, as well as for students in vocational schools and technical institutes. Using the principles and laws of mechanics, physics, and the fundamentals of engineering, Mechanics of Materials: An Introduction for Engineering Technology will help aspiring and practicing engineers and engineering technicians from across disciplines-mechanical, civil, chemical, and electrical-apply concepts of engineering mechanics for analysis and design of materials, structures, and machine components. The book is ideal for those seeking a rigorous, algebra/trigonometry-based text on the mechanics of materials.

This book also:

· Elucidates concepts of engineering mechanics in materials, including stress and strain, force systems on structures, moment of inertia, and shear and bending moments in a beam without requiring a background in calculus

· Illustrates the influence of mechanical properties of materials using real engineering problems

· Serves as a valuable reference for students and practitioners seeking state licensing in professional engineering

· Includes appendices of useful standard material properties, diagrams, and formulas readers need for calculation and design purposes

· Reinforces concepts presented with student exercises

Autorenporträt
Dr. Parviz Ghavami was born on January 10, 1943 in Iran. He studied his early and secondary education in Esphahan. He continued his education towards university degree and received a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He stayed on engineering field from 1965-1978, and worked as a design engineer and senior project engineer for overseas industries both in Iran and abroad.

Leaving Iran in 1978 to pursue further graduate studies in The United States, Dr Ghavami obtained a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Portland, Oregon in August 1979. From 1979 until 1983, he worked as a project design engineer for consulting firms in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Norman, Oklahoma.

In August 1984 he joined the faculty of the Mathematics and Science Department at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen, where he taught mathematics, physics and engineering courses. Meanwhile, in 1989, he accepted adjunct faculty position with the University at Brownsville, TX where he taught mathematics, physics and engineering courses.

In May1997, he received his Master of Science degree in Mathematics at the University of Texas Pan American. In May 2000, Dr. Ghavami was licensed by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers with a specialization in mechanical and civil engineering.

In May 2003, Dr. Ghavami received a Doctoral of Education degree in Administration and Supervision at the University of Houston. Finally, he received his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the Texas A&M University at Kingsville, in May 2011.

In last 15 years, Dr.Ghavami as president of Ghavami Consulting, has done a great deal of projects for construction industry in the residential and commercial structural and mechanical engineering design and construction.
