He built a rustic cabin in the woods in Madison County, Mississippi at age15 and hunted, fished and trapped selling his pelts for extra spending money and was President of the Student Body of Jackson Central High School during that time and until he finished Millsaps College in Jackson in 3 years while majoring in Political Science and History and a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was fortunate to lead the second hunting expedition to Mongolia after the Iron Curtain Fell. Mongolia was the second Communist Country after Russia.He has been a long time member of the Sierra Club and was a member of the "Mississippi Group" that organized the Mississippi Chapter. He was a long time member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation that supported The Mississippi Museum of Natural and served as its President for 2 consecutive years. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Safari Club International, an International Hunting
and Conservation Organization, and also as a Regional Vice President. He served as President of the Mississippi Chapter of Safari Club International and has been a long time member of the Internal Professional Hunters Association.
