Each volume is organized into chapters corresponding to the months of the year with each day's significant events being documented throughout the entire life of the Confederacy. The series is designed to be read from beginning to end or used as a reference guide for researching a particular date, campaign or time frame. Though it only existed for four years, the Confederacy is a profound part of the history of the United States of America. From the Confederacy's inception in 1860 and 1861 to the conclusion of the American Civil War in 1865, a complete account of the Confederacy's key people, places, and events are covered. The collection begins with the year prior to secession to the pivotal event at Fort Sumter in 1861 where the Civil War begins to just beyond the end of the war after the Confederate surrender at Appomattox in 1865.
