Produktbeschreibung
In 'Kate Bonnet', Frank R. Stockton crafts a narrative that vividly explores the tumultuous Golden Age of Piracy through the lens of a familial relationship strained by a sudden plunge into lawlessness. The book is richly embroidered with the dialects and mores of the period, intermixing historical authenticity with Stockton's characteristic blend of humor and whimsy. Amidst a sea of pirate tales, Stockton's work emerges as a distinctive meditation on loyalty and the convolutions of honor among thieves, delivered in prose that is both accessible and elegant, with a penchant for subtle social commentary nestled within its adventurous context. Frank R. Stockton, known for his enduring works such as 'The Lady or the Tiger?', was an American writer and humorist celebrated for his allegorical storytelling and droll narrative voice. 'Kate Bonnet' may be seen as a departure from his more fantastical fare, revealing Stockton's fascination with the ambivalence of human nature and society's often arbitrary moral compass. His background in satirical pieces likely informed his approach to depicting a world where right and wrong are as mercurial as the Caribbean tides. This novel serves as a reminder of Stockton's versatility and his gift for infusing lighthearted tales with deeper philosophical underpinnings. 'Kate Bonnet' is an invitation to readers who cherish adventure wrapped in wit and enriched by historical tapestry. Stockton's fans will find the same engaging storytelling they love, while newcomers will be charmed by the singular characters and the quest at the heart of the tale. This book beckons those keen on piratical escapades but is especially recommended to enthusiasts of literature that captures the essence of an era while examining the perennial complexities of family loyalty and personal identity.

Autorenporträt
Frank Richard Stockton was an American author and humorist who lived from April 5, 1834, to April 20, 1902. He is best known for a set of unique children's fairy tales that were very popular in the last few decades of the 1800s. Stockton was born in Philadelphia in 1834. His father was a famous Methodist preacher who told him he shouldn't become a writer. He and his wife went to Burlington, New Jersey, after getting married to Mary Ann Edwards Tuttle. That's where he wrote some of his first books. They then moved to New Jersey's Nutley. He worked as a wood carver for many years until his father died in 1860. He went back to Philadelphia in 1867 to work as a writer for a newspaper that his brother had started. His first fairy tale, "Ting-a-ling," came out in The Riverside Magazine that same year. In 1870, he released his first collection of stories. In the early 1870s, he was also the editor of the magazine Hearth and Home. He went to Charles Town, West Virginia, around 1899. He died of a brain bleed in Washington, DC, on April 20, 1902. He is buried at The Woodlands in Philadelphia.
