John Newman, Bookseller's Choice, Publishing News.

"Unique and brilliant!" Dr Ian Mortimer (author of the Time Traveller's Guides).

"Roberts wears her considerable research lightly, and you never question for a minute that this was how Alexander came to rule the Mediterranean and the east… but it is not romanticised; you feel the glory of victory but also see how it ultimately corrupts the victor. And the ending, for both king and horse, is as moving as anything I've read." Mary Hoffman, The Guardian.

Autorenporträt
Katherine Roberts grew up in the south west of England, where her first fantasy stories were told to her little brother at bedtime. She graduated in mathematics from the University of Bath, after which she worked with computers. When redundancy struck in 1989, she fulfilled a childhood dream of working with horses in a racing yard, writing short stories in her spare time. Her first novel Song Quest won the 2000 Branford Boase Award, kick-starting her career as an author. Her books have been published by HarperCollins, Chicken House and Scholastic US, and translated into 12 languages worldwide - one of them even hit the bestseller list in Taiwan.

Away from her computer, Katherine enjoys folk music, cycling, skiing, and horse riding. She has flown a glider solo and scared herself doing aerobatics in a small plane. All of these experiences eventually find their way into her books - though sometimes the horse becomes a unicorn, and the plane becomes a dragon!
