In patients with highly functional autism and Asperger syndrome, a lack of social competence means that despite normal intelligence, they are unable to cope with the demands of private and professional life. Persistent stress, often leading to depression and anxiety disorders, is the consequence. This is the first German-language manual focusing on the individual psychotherapeutic treatment of this group of patients. Numerous quotations, reports by and discussions with those affected vividly convey the clinical picture of the disorder.
