Autorenporträt
Alice Leighton Cleather (1846-1938) was an author and dedicated Theosophist, passionately involved with the Theosophical Society from its early days. With an insatiable thirst for esoteric knowledge, she became one of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky's devoted pupils, engaging deeply with Blavatsky's teachings and theosophical philosophy. Her literary contributions are reflective of her commitment to spreading the knowledge she obtained under Blavatsky's tutelage and the subsequent ideological rifts that formed within the Society post-Blavatsky's death. 'H. P. Blavatsky; A Great Betrayal' remains one of Cleather's prominent works, in which she vehemently argued against what she perceived as the distortion of Blavatsky's teachings by the later Theosophical leaders. In her writing, which is characterized by a scholarly yet fervent tone, Cleather seeks to defend and preserve the purity of the original theosophical doctrine. She was part of a group known as the 'Back to Blavatsky' movement, endeavoring to maintain a strict adherence to the core precepts laid out by Blavatsky herself. Through her book, as well as her activism within the Theosophical community, Cleather's legacy endures as that of a staunch protector of Blavatsky's spiritual legacy.
