Frederik George Pohl, Jr. (November 26, 1919 - September 2, 2013) was an award-winning American science fiction writer, editor and fan, with a career spanning more than 75 years, from his first published work, the 1937 poem "Elegy to a Dead Satellite: Luna", to the 2011 novel All the Lives He Led and articles and essays published in 2012. He won four "year's best novel" awards for his 1977 novel Gateway; the Campbell Memorial Award again for the 1984 collection of novellas Years of the City; and a U.S. National Book Award in the one-year category Science Fiction for his 1979 novel Jem. He also won four Hugo and three Nebula Awards. The Science Fiction Writers of America named Pohl its 12th recipient of the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award in 1993, and he was inducted by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame in 1998. Cyril M. Kornbluth (July 2, 1923 - March 21, 1958) was an American science fiction author and a notable member of the Futurians. He used a variety of pen-names, including Cecil Corwin, S. D. Gottesman, Edward J. Bellin, Kenneth Falconer, Walter C. Davies, Simon Eisner, Jordan Park, Arthur Cooke, Paul Dennis Lavond and Scott Mariner. Kornbluth served in the US Army during World War II (European 'Theatre') and received a Bronze Star for his service in the Battle of the Bulge, where he served as a member of a heavy machine gun crew. He started writing full-time in 1951, collaborating on novels with his old Futurian friends Frederik Pohl and Judith Merril.
