This is a story about the Author's father, George John Markulis, a Greek immigrant who was recruited to come to America to work the coal mines in the state of Utah. The recruiters knew from the Greek coal miners in utah, that times were hard in Greece and that many of the young Greeks were leaving Greece seeking employment in other countries. The author's father, George John Markulis, accepted the offer and came to America in 1912. Through an arranged marriage, he returned to Greece in 1929 and married Terpsihori Michael Galanis.She had finished college and wanted to be a school teacher. Returning to America, hard times hit Americaalong with the rest of the world with the Great Depression of the 1930s. The book describes the life of this coal miner, his wife, raising five boys through these hard times of the depression years and beyond. He lived to be 100 years old, achieving his American Dream, not in riches but in Love of family. He was born on 1886 and passed away in 1985, 37 days short of his 100th birthday.
