Scott Makuakane practices law in Honolulu with his wife and law partner Gail Kawakami. Both Scott and Gail grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii and then over several decades took separate paths that led them back to joining forces in the law firm of Est8Planning Counsel LLLC. Scott double-majored in English and Philosophy at Duke University and received his law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii, where he served as articles editor of the University of Hawaii Law Review.
