'Dear Violet, With all my Love', Jack is a love story - a love story between a brash young B-24 bomber pilot and his sweetheart 'back home'. As the United States entered the war in 1941, it was imperative that the military's arsenal - both soldier and machine - be prepared to protect and defend the United States and her Allies. Jack enlisted in the summer of 1942 at the age of 19. It was during this time that he met the girl of his dreams, and through his love letters, wooed, courted and shared his heart with her. After Officer's Training and graduating from Training Command advanced twin engine flying school, Jack was sent to Liberal, Kansas to be trained on the new B-24; 'Miss Liberator'. The first of Jack's letters were sent to Violet during this time. The B-24 was a new aircraft and very difficult to fly. Flight school suffered many casualties during the 9 week program but Jack never lost his love of flying or his commitment to serve. Jack was then sent to support China's efforts during the war in order to hold back Japan from an inland invasion. This was known as the China Burma India Theater, also known as flying 'the Hump'. Bases were located in India where the Army Air Corp flew supplies over the Himalayas to China. Throughout his tour, he and Violet grew in love and devotion. Many of his letters not only reflect his love for her, but also, reflected the man he was to become as a husband, a father, and an officer. It is also a love story of Jack's family, Jack's love of country, and his great thrill, flying.
