The COVID-19 pandemic has turned our world upside down. Starting from late 2019 across the entire 2020, our planet observed one of the greatest challenges of our time with respect to loss of lives, high level of infections, chaos, and political instability together with devastating impacts on our socio-economic life. Every possible sector of modern human life has been deeply impacted by this pandemic starting from agriculture, industry, trade and commerce to our local ecosystems and environment. It is important to note that the pandemic had significant impact in almost all countries across the six continents except for Antarctica. All major countries in both hemispheres including developing, underdeveloped, and developed nations have been equally impacted. The COVID-19 pandemic will go down in human history as a hallmark of significant global negative impacts and its short- and long-term consequences on our society and lifestyle across the globe. This book is composed keeping the above scenario in mind.

The book presents a thoughtful insight into the biological, medical, and socio-economic impacts, causes and concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Therefore, as editors we present this, a multi-authored book covering varied dimensions to the academics, scientists, and medical professionals. We have compiled this book with valuable knowledge from eminent experts from the diverse fields of biology, medicine, agriculture, industry, academia, sociology, ecology, and environment to contribute on various aspects of COVID-19 pandemic starting from the biology and pathology of the virus, understanding its infectivity and spread to the socio- economic consequences of the pandemic across the globe.

We are glad to acknowledge the painstaking efforts and hard work thankful of all the authors for their in designing their valuable articles. Autorenporträt
Saikat Kumar Basu did his Masters in Botany from the University of Calcutta (India) and Agricultural Studies from the University of Lethbridge (Canada). Currently serving as the Executive Research Director of a private firm in western Canada.

He has authored several research and review articles published in reputed national and international journals; as well as books and book chapters published by premier international academic publishers.

He has written, edited and co-edited over 25 books till date. He has participated in a number of national and international seminars and conferences presenting papers and posters and is an active member of a number of organizations in Canada and India.

He has received several awards such as Graduate Citizenship Award (2009), Alberta Graduate Student Award (2009), CSA Best Article Award (2010), SAEA Volunteer Award (2011), AFC Celebrate Agriculture in Alberta Photo Award (2012), ASPB Peggy Thompson Publication Award (2014) and Dr. Gopal Chandra Bhattacharya Memorial Award (2020). Saikat enjoys travelling, soccer, cricket, writing and photography during his leisure.
