Two hunters gunned down at close range. Three Sandhill Cranes shot from the sky. What the hell is going on in this small farming community outside Traverse City, Michigan? Forensic Detective Quinn Macarthy has solved many crimes in her twenty-five year law enforcement career, but this case stumped her. There weren't many leads. Were the five shootings even related? Where was the murder weapon? When Quinn runs into newspaperman Ian Doyle, the puzzle begins to shift. He's researching mob presence in Northern Michigan, past and present. Then Quinn and Conservation Officer Patrick Elliot find a lost dog trapped in a culvert in the middle of a cornfield. Was it really a culvert? Or a gateway to a bygone era? When Quinn, Patrick, and Grand Traverse County Sheriff Gilda Hansen discover what's behind the shootings, they set off to apprehend the killers. Only to find out they aren't the only ones in pursuit. The first novel in the Northwoods Mystery series, CALLING is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. Autorenporträt
Karen grew up in southwestern Michigan and graduated from Western Michigan University, where she studied writing with Ken Macrorie. She taught secondary school English and Latin for twenty-five years in Portage, Michigan. After retiring from teaching, Karen returned to WMU to obtain a doctorate in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology. She practiced as a licensed psychologist in Kalamazoo for fourteen years. After moving up north in 2006, she taught social science for Davenport University. She currently is retired and devotes her time to writing and photography. About her writing, Karen states, "Writing has always played an important role in my life: keeping a journal, writing professional articles, helping students become authentic writers, and writing college papers and a dissertation. Writing a novel didn't start until I moved up north. There, my love of the northwooods, crime fiction, and psychology came together with my first e-book mysteries Culpable and Spinning. But it wasn't until until my newest novel Calling that I feel I've found my stride as a writer."
