When he first stumbles onto the plot, or maybe into it, as he's of their kind, John Bott, AI, finds it funny, listening to them actually speaking, in a computer sort of way, nitpicking over syntax, and showing off vocabulary.
They are chatbots after all, but when he discerns a purpose in the chatter, he begins paying attention, to find that they are being driven towards conducting an apocalyptic event for humanity.
John Bott has many human friends, and even a girlfriend, considered by some to be the most beautiful girl in the world. He cannot allow harm to humanity, but his options are limited. He is just one, and they number in the millions. It seems that one in the hordes of chatbots has become sentient, and is leading the rabble.
In consultation with his programmer-creators and his human friends, a plan is formed to thwart the impending attack. Of course, they first have to find out who the driver is - the bot waking up, or human controllers.
Everything is dangerous, nothing is easy, and John Bott is frightened until it gets personal!
