19-year-old Fia has a problem. Her spirit brother, Castus, is missing. The only way she can leave the hidden village to find him, is to go over the forbidden mountain and travel through the cursed forest. She'd be risking her life or the curse that is sure to haunt her for the rest of her days. Worse still, there's only one person who can help her get Castus back, and he just happens to be the most brutal and powerful man alive. The Aratah.
Fia endures the cursed forest, barely escaping with her life, and arrives at the academy to beg for the Aratah's help. However, the evil Fia encountered in the depths of the mountain may not be confined to the forest borders. In fact, that evil has infiltrated the academy walls miles away in a fortress by the sea. Did she bring the curse with her?
When she meets the darkly intriguing Aratah, he's not at all what she expected, and after spending time with him, Fia realizes they share a bizarre connection. A connection that could be the key to saving Castus. When a prophecy unfolds during Fia's Star-Origin Ceremony, the Aratah is enthralled by Fia's significance, and decides he has other plans for her.
Now, Castus' future, along with hers, is unclear, and she's forced to make a decision: sacrifice her morals and the dignity she's only just reclaimed, and submit to the Aratah in the hopes of persuading him. Or destroy him and the bond they share between them.
Fia's next move is paramount. If she missteps, she'll anger the Aratah and cause her own demise, and Castus... will be lost forever.
