Berenice is not a hero; she is an ordinary person who had to go through tortuous paths, like all of us. But if Berenice experienced difficulties, like all of us, what does she have to teach us? Berenice's lessons derive from the person she becomes regardless of so many stones in her life. This is the great teaching of Adriana Martins personified in her non-heroine. Autorenporträt
I was born in Brazil, but nowadays I live in a charming city called Rambouillet, in France, with my three teenage children and my husband, who is also my great friend. Why did I write Berenice from Cappadocia? For since I was in college, during History graduation, I have been interested in the lives of those who were forgotten by the books, those who have not changed the direction of eminent nations, but who have made all the difference in the lives of people they loved and hated. Why did I only start writing it now that I have reached the indiscreet middle age when the idea of Berenice has existed for almost twenty years? Well, telling a life story requires experience and reflection. And a lot of patience too. Things I did not have when I was young. So, just as Catullus wrote to his friend Cornelius Nepos, I also propose this charming book to you.
