Si C. M. Potter consacre du temps à ses abeilles qui logent dans son jardin, elle consacre aussi son temps à l'enseignement. C. M. Potter est professeur de linguistique et de français à Pasadena City College en Californie. Avant de poser ses bagages aux Etats-Unis, elle a habité au Canada et au Japon. Elle a aussi beaucoup voyagé en Europe, en Asie, et en Afrique. Elle aime son jardin qui est pour elle une source de fierté car elle a reçu le prix du meilleur jardin résistant à la sécheresse qui lui a été décerné par sa ville.
