Autorenporträt
Marie Leprince de Beaumont was a French author and esteemed children's educator. Born to a poor family in Rouen in 1711, de Beaumont attained a prominent position as a children's singing teacher in the court of the Duke of Lorraine as a young woman before moving to London and finding work as a governess. It was in London that de Beaumont published her first novel, The Triumph of Truth, and began to write various schoolbooks and children's stories. Her writings included some of the first fairytales, the most famous of which became the standard telling of Beauty and the Beast. De Beaumont later remarried and returned to France to have many children of her own. She died in Savoy in 1780 at the age of 69.
