Phillip Schuler, alongside C. E. W. Bean, was one of Australia's key First World War correspondents. A soldier as well as a journalist, he died on 23 June 1917 of wounds received at Armentières. His legacy was Australia in Arms, an extraordinary and evocative account of the Australian Imperial Force and their achievements, and the first full published account of Australia's role in the Dardanelles campaign. Phillip Schuler volunteered to document the Gallipoli campaign for The Age newspaper during the First World War. He died on the Western Front in 1917 at the age of twenty-eight.
