Produktbeschreibung
Mackinac Island is located in Lake Huron. It is one of three crown jewels that are within the borders of Michigan. Upon arrival, you will notice a lot of bicycles, horse-drawn carriagessome for hauling freight, others for shuttling people to and from their hotelthe maroon Grand Hotel bus, taxis, and public tour carriages. People are walking on the streets and sidewalks as well. If you arrive in late May or early June, you will have a chance of catching the lilacs in bloom. There are five authorized motorized vehicles allowed on the island. They are police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, an assortment of maintenance vehicles for the electric company, and snowmobiles, which is the main mode of transportation for the approximately 450 to 500 permanent residents. One of the best and easiest ways to get around is by bicycle. Most people who visit the island think that Main Street and downtown is it. There is more to the island than the eighteen or so fudge shops and tourist stores. It is part of the experience, but not the whole experience.

Autorenporträt
I have been employed in the past by BLM as a fire lookout in Ashland, Montana. I drive back to Michigan, where I reside in Hemlock, after the fire season. I do volunteer work for MI Blood. They supply all the local hospitals with the blood that they need. I am also a living Kidney Donor. In 2000 my best friend had total Renal failure. he had 8 brothers and sisters, 3 were a match but deferred due to blood transfusions. I was an 88% match. Hunting and fishing are two of my hobbies. I will use these to just relax and free up my brain so I can think. I worked on Mackinac Island for eleven years as a tour driver. I had driven many teams in those eleven years. I researched the material for my tour, making it easier for me to answer the questions the customers might have. While doing research for information for my tour, I came up with the idea for the book, finding the story behind the facts sometimes more interesting. While attending Saginaw Valley State University, I enjoyed writing and research. My course in Michigan history really opened my eyes to the role Michigan played in the history of this country. I was always learning something new. That is how this book came about.
