Smith, in 2006, also launched a student newsroom at The Houston Chronicle in Houston, TX.As part of a partnership between The Houston Chronicle and the Houston Independent School District, high school seniors, aspiring to work in the field of communications, spent afternoons at the Houston Chronicle. Smith was the classroom facilitator for 14 years.Inspired by her mother's death in 2011, Smith began to encourage herself through prayer and daily devotion.
