The book is aimed to bring out the socio-economic characteristics of cassava growers and to assess awareness and adoption levels apart from the research priorities. The study also aimed at analysing the real yield gaps existing among the cassava growers in Tamil Nadu and focuses on problems encountered by the farmers in production, processing and marketing. Participatory rural appraisal methods and interview schedule were used to collect the data. Percentage analysis, cummulative frequency, ranking, mean were used for the study. The results revealed that the farmers had medium level of socio-economic status and poor adoption on high yielding varieties, nursery techniques, sett treatment practices, fertilizer management and plant protection aspects. Farmers facing an average yield gap of 5.86 tonnes/acre and they need research on marketing, post harvest and agriculture policies. The major constraints are exploitation by middle man, mal practices by factory personel, lack of value addition units and quality planting materials. Suitable stratergies were formulated to over come. This book will be usefull for the social scientists,people working in cassava crop and farming community.
