This fast-paced science fiction action adventure follows the exploits of a team of special operatives, starting with one very unusual mission. "There are only two ways to live in this city. You can take the smart road, stay a civilian, follow all the rules, do what you're told. Every day will be the same, from the day you're born until the day you die. By the time Death comes for you, you'll greet him with a heartier handshake than you accord your neighbors. Or you can join us. You'll still follow all the rules and do what you're told. You will die young, make no mistake about it. But you will truly live before you die." Kit had never doubted her choice to join the ORG and become an elite operative, responsible for keeping the citizenry of the city in line. Everything she had done had been for the food of the city, as judged by the will of the Congress, and she had been following orders. Until this mission. This mission was different. It made Kit mistrust everything she had ever believed in and set her on a path she had never imagined, leading her and her teammates to explore the forbidden past, to challenge their idea of the future, and finally to question the very nature of reality itself.
