Yards' first produced cask-conditioned ales on a homemade three-barrel brewing system. Their lineup included "Entire Porter" and "Old Bart." They unveiled their Extra Special Ale (ESA) at the Philadelphia Craft Beer Festival in April 1995. As demand for Yards increased, the company outgrew its first brewery. In 1996, the company moved to 5050 Umbria Street in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia and built a new production facility. The new brewery allowed Yards to bottle its beer for the first time. Yards expanded production of its Extra Special Ale and also began introducing new beers including Brawler and Premium. In 2001, Yards Brewing Company moved again to 2439 Amber Street the former site of the old Weisbrod & Hess Brewery in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.
