Always resilient, Maria pushes through the culture shock, raises her family of three boys, and earns a teaching credential from San Diego State University. Her compelling story moves fast and the more one reads, the more we admire her determination to achieve a productive and fascinating life.

Maria was an Italian child at the beginning of WWII. Now in her 80's, she remembers vividly the true story of her family's life under Italy's wartime fascist regime. She eventually moved to the United States, raised a family and taught ESL and English. She lives near San Diego, California.
