Lothar Heinke, 1934 in Berlin geboren, arbeitete bis 1991 als Chefreporter für die Ost-Berliner Tageszeitung Der Morgen. Danach wechselte er in die Lokalredaktion des Tagesspiegel. Dort schrieb er über den Abriss des Checkpoint Charlie und die Umwälzungen in der ehemaligen DDR nach dem Fall der Mauer, aber auch Berliner Stadtgeschichten. Er verfasste auch das Buch Fernsehturm Berlin. Auch nach seiner Pensionierung arbeitet er weiter für das Blatt. Er lebt mit seiner Frau in Berlin-Mitte, interessiert sich für Musik, vorzugsweise klassische, liebt Italien und ist Mitglied des Berliner Fußballvereins 1. FC Union.
