'Walking the Peak Way' is for hikers who want to explore 155 miles mainly in the Peak District, UK, on this NEW long-distance walking route through the Dark Peak and the White Peak. There are 13 stages of the route which will probably take most hikers about two weeks to complete. The route was planned so that there is accommodation available at, or close to, the end of each stage. Written by experienced long-distance hiker Ken Reece, who has enjoyed most of his day walks in the Peak District, this guidebook is packed with lots of information for planning your walk. Starting and finishing in Stockport, Greater Manchester, just a few miles outside the Peak District National Park, it is beneficial for hikers from throughout the UK and overseas because of its excellent transport links, and therefore is very accessible for most hikers. The route includes many of the best views in the Peak District and features rugged moorland paths on gritstone edges with far-reaching views, riverside paths along limestone dales, canal towpaths and trails on former railway routes. It showcases many heritage features, historical houses (Chatsworth Hall and Lyme Hall) and picturesque villages and hamlets. The route features a walk over Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District, and visits many notable places of interest including the Great Ridge, Stanage Edge, Monsal Dale, Cheedale, Dovedale and Derwent Reservoir. The book includes Ordnance Survey mapping for the entire route and detailed route descriptions to enable easy navigation. It has information on points of interest to enrich the walk, and information on facilities along the route, accommodation, baggage transfers, tourist attractions, useful addresses & websites and travelling around the Peak District. Having over 100 colour photographs, this walking guide book will also be a lovely souvenir when you have completed the walk.
