Wolfgang Horn ist Professor für Musikwissenschaft an der Universität Erlangen. Neben zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen zur Musik und Musiktheorie des 15. bis 18. Jahrhunderts ist er der Herausgeber von Carl Philipp Emanuel Bachs "Versuch über die wahre Art das Clavier zu spielen".

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, der zweitälteste Sohn Johann Sebastian Bachs, wurde nach fast dreißigjährigem Hofdienst bei Friedrich II. zum Musikdirektor an den fünf Hauptkirchen der Hansestadt Hamburg als Nachfolger Telemanns berufen.
