The Western Auckland urban zone is mostly situated within Waitakere City, although some semi-rural tracts of land in the vicinity of Kumeu in Rodney District are also considered part of western Auckland. The Central Auckland Urban Zone is the mainland part of Auckland City, and excludes the Hauraki Gulf islands. The Southern Auckland Urban Zone consists of the urban part of Manukau City (the east of the city), Papakura District, and parts of Franklin District (Runciman and Whangapouri Creek).
