The Borough of Union Beach was established in May 1925 and began as a community of summer homes for many northern New Jersey residents. Property in the Borough was inexpensive and close to the beach, and the area eventually became filled with year-round residents. Author and local historian William H. Burket has created a lasting tribute to the memories of Union Beach. His affection for his hometown was sparked by the stories of his grandfather, James P. McKittrick, who was elected mayor of Union Beach in November 1925 and served 11 years.
