About Paula McDermid Ms. McDermid acquired her first Australian Shepherds in 1980 and has been devoted to the breed since that time. Under the kennel name "Bainbridge," she produced many champions, obedience, herding, and agility titled dogs. Among those beautiful and talented Aussies were two superstars: CH Steal The Show of Bainbridge, Best of Breed winner at the 1986 Australian Shepherd Club of America National Specialty. Ms. McDermid's success as a breeder earned Bainbridge Aussies the "Hall of Fame" designation from the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA). Ms. McDermid served for nine years on the Board of Directors of the United States Australian Shepherd Association (USASA). Her positions included Vice President, Director, Newsletter Editor, and Chairperson of the Health and Genetics Committee (H&G). Her greatest achievement as H&G Chairperson was the advancement of genetic health testing of Australian Shepherds. In 2007 she spearheaded the establishment of the first Aussie epilepsy research program. From 2007-2011, Ms. McDermid directed the expansion of genetic health testing at the USASA National Specialty, establishing it as an annual event. Ms. McDermid began judging Australian Shepherds in 1986 at ASCA specialty shows and is a Senior Breeder Judge. In 1995, she became the second Australian Shepherd Breeder-Judge to be approved by the American Kennel Club. She judges AKC and ASCA shows across the United States, and FCI Australian Shepherd specialty shows in Europe.
